Communication is inspired by the quiet genius of bees and the many ways connection happens beyond words. This piece explores movement, instinct, community, and the language built into creation itself.
The Story Behind the Piece
Some of the biggest lessons I’ve learned in life have come from this creature.
I have always been drawn to bees. Part of that interest grew through conversations with my friend at Happy Bear Apiary, and part of it comes from my fascination with how important bees are to the environment. I have created earrings and artwork with bee and honey elements before, but this was my first explicit bee painting.
The title Communication comes from the fact that bees do not speak the way humans do, yet they are extraordinary communicators. Their movement, patterns, signals, and relationship to one another reveal a kind of language beyond words.
This piece was also inspired by another bee painting by Tahlia Stanton, which encouraged me to create my own version. It was first featured with NewTowne Gallery at the Nature Cadence show.
There is something beautiful and slightly funny about bees. They can be annoying, yes, but they are also organized, essential, expressive, and deeply connected. This painting reflects the lessons they offer about paying attention, working together, and understanding that communication is much bigger than speech.
